Get up here NOW. IT'S SNOWING!!!
No 'Hi, how are you', or 'Hi, it's me Marie, how you doing?'. Just "IT'S SNOWING!!". So, of course my response to this phone call was 'I'm on my way'.....
Okay, so that is not exactly how it happened. I was already planning to go up for the weekend to see my oldest, and greatest friend and her gorgeous family, but then it snowed and the plans, of course, had to change.
We were planning on doing a couple of Quality Mountain Days to help me build up my logbook for my Mountain Leader Assessment, but a couple of things got in our way. Firstly, Marie, by Best Friend, has two gorgeous, but very small children and with all the will in the world, there was no way they were going to get up any later that 5am to see their Auntie Eli. Who can resist the opportunity to get downstairs and leap on someone who is all snuggled up in their sleeping bag on the sofa? So, we had a VERY early alarm call and after an 'interesting' drive up the M6 in the snow I had not got a great deal of sleep.
Secondly, as soon as Marie gets to have some downtime without the kids she passes out, literally. She is so exhausted that the minute someone else takes control her body just stops working.
Thirdly, it hadn't actually stopped snowing on the Saturday. And not only was it still snowing but it was blowing a hoolie as well. Not pleasant. Call me a fair weather walker, but I am generally a fair weather walker!! So, instead of the planned QMD on the Saturday we spent a very enjoyable day in and around Keswick. We did walk, just around shops, cafe's and the lake.
So, that put the pressure on for the Sunday, especially as the weather was looking (and indeed turned out to be) stunning. So, the plan was to walk up to Easedale Tarn and then Marie was going to set me some Navigation challenges over the snowy fells and back down in to Grasmere.
To say the day was just perfection would be an understatement. We walked, we talked, I navigated, we played in the snow, we reached peaks, we descended valleys and we met some great people. What can I say, the Lake District did not disappoint.
So, I didn't get my two QMD's, I just got the one, but it was a corker. And the Saturday, spent in the shops with my #BFF was just perfect too.
The Lake District. #Heaven
