It is Spring, finally. After the warmest Winter on UK records I for one am ready for the longer days and warmer airs that Spring heralds. Today is also St David's Day so Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!
For many Spring is a fresh start, a chance to set new goals and to look to the positive. So, after what I can quite easily call my 'winter of discontent' I am very excited about what this new season brings.....
Picture the scene, the sun is shining, the skies are clear and there is a light breeze whistling through the treetops. Stop for a minute and listen. Listen to the sounds of nature just doing its thing. Bliss. Spring for me is the chance to get outside more and more. It is also a chance to give myself a spring clean and refocus on myself a bit.
Don't panic I am not going to ask you to go for a colonic or some in depth therapy session, I mean spring clean yourself as in the way you think and the things you do.
It is so easy to get caught up in the 'he said, she said' vibe, or the 'keeping up with the Jones's' thing. But seriously, when the day ends who actually gives a shit what car you have or whether your sunglasses are Ray Bans? If you can end each day having lived an experience that is far richer than ending it with yet more crap in your life. So, No. 1, challenge yourself to ditch the labels and start to collect these experiences rather than things. (Don't worry this is a HUGE work in progress for me, I can never resist a bargain Norrona Jacket on eBay).
Challenge No.2. Be Kind. If you just keep those two words in your mind all the time then you will find yourself doing just that, being kind. Don't waste time shouting at someone who pulled out on a roundabout, you don't know, maybe they have just had a call from their child's school saying their son has had an accident, you never know what is going on in other people's lives to make them behave the way they do. So give them the benefit of the doubt and Be Kind. At the end of the day if it has made them feel happy to have pulled out faster than you then great. Good for them.
No.3.Get Outside. Even if it is to just walk round the block, get outside, whatever the weather. There is nothing worse then going to bed at night and looking back over your day and realising you never even made it outside (and walking to the car does NOT count). So, no excuses, do something outside, every damn day.
That's it. Not rocket science, three little simple things that can help you to Spring clean yourself ready for the new season.
