A week in Scotland meant a chance for us to spend some quality time together as a family. Life has a habit of getting in the way and lately we seemed to all be doing lots of things but separately. It was really important to me that we we had time together and part of that, for me, meant no social media for the week...
The plan for the week, initially, was quite selfish really. Tony and I needed to get some Quality Mountain Days for our Mountain Leader log books but also I have wanted to go to Scotland for as long as I can remember. We found our holiday cottage by chance. Having spent ages looking for somewhere up near Fort William I was struggling due to the costs. So, I extended my search area and stumbled upon Wade House in Weem.
Wade House was the original Weem Hotel built to house General Wade during his days of road and bridge building across Scotland around 1733. A beautifully renovated, three bedroom house just a short walk from the town of Aberfeldy.
It wasn't quite the mega highlands I was after, but the location was just perfect for us and our first visit to Scotland. Aberfeldy is a delightful town with everything you need inclulding some great places to eat and drink. It is also home to Dewars Whiskey Distillery which sadly, due to the kids, we were unable to visit (it is in on the list for next time!).
The location is also perfect for some Munro bagging with Schiehallion and Ben Lawers being close by. Our plan had been to do both, but having climbed Ben Lawers we then asked the kids if they fancied Schiehallion and we were greeted with a resounding 'no'.
Instead we walked, explored waterfalls, rivers, valleys and the stunning estate of Blair Castle. We visited Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Kenmore. We spent every moment together as a family and the best bit of all was that I did not go on social media once.
Happy Family Time...
