Yesterday was a good day despite being in a real low at the moment. I had a meeting in the morning and I so, so very nearly didn't go but boy I am SO glad I did. Having anxiety is SHIT, mental health issues are just bollocks as there is no rhyme or reason behind a relapse you just wake up one morning (well IF you have slept that is) and wham; you feel like a blob of weird jelly on the verge of tears and really snappy and oh so very sensitive.
More exams? More tests? Really? As an ex-teacher I am deeply saddened by this news and it would appear that its not just me. Ben Fogle has just written a superb article for The Guardian about there being more wilderness in education and I have to agree. Teaching our children to pass exams does not give them the skills they need to succeed in their chosen pathway, all it does is teach them how to pass an exam on a set day. So what would give them these skills? Well the Outdoors of course!
Oh yes, I have started climbing and I actually like it! I was very anxious, okay, I suffer from anxiety so that was going to be a no-brainer really wasn't it? But I was. I have only ever tried climbing once before, many years ago on a cliff face in South Devon and I froze. Half way up and half way down, I couldn't move. I just wanted to cry, so I did once I had humiliated myself completely and run away of course. So, why have I started again? Well, I am all for the challenge!
